Maritime & Naval

Naval sustainment fails on lead time more often than on capability. B-FSD produces forging replacements without a die, and deposits structural material onto parts already in service, including away from a shipyard.

Forging replacementsRepair of parts in serviceMonolithic pressure vessels

Primary capability

Bobbin Friction Stir Deposition (B-FSD)

Because B-FSD is solid-state and needs no furnace, no die, and no shielding gas, it travels. That is what makes it viable for repair of parts in service (naval vessels, remote bases, forward operating locations) where the alternative is removing the structure or waiting on a replacement that may no longer be manufactured.

The problem

If Any of These Is True, It Is Worth a Conversation.

01A replacement part is obsolete, sole-sourced, or no longer tooled
02Forging lead time exceeds the maintenance window
03Corrosion or wear damage that currently means replacing a whole structure
04Repairs that must happen at the point of need, not in a shipyard
05Fusion weld repairs introducing distortion, porosity, or cracking
06Dissimilar-metal joints currently carried by bolted or bonded assemblies

Applications

What We Build for Maritime & Naval

01

Forging Replacements

Rings, flanges, and structural sections produced net-shape without a die or a queue.

02

Repair of Parts in Service

Restoring worn or damaged aluminum structures on vessels and at remote bases.

03

Monolithic Pressure Vessels

Cylindrical structures without a longitudinal seam, removing the joint that drives inspection cost.

04

Feature Addition

Adding bosses, pads, and local thickness to existing structures.

Also for maritime programs

Beyond the Primary Capability

ALSO

Friction Stir Welding

Hull structures, tailored welded blanks, and multi-material joints. Solid-state joints with long fatigue life, minimal distortion, and no filler, and hermetic sealing that gasketed and brazed joints cannot reliably deliver.

Why us

What Stands Behind the Claim

Solid State, No Melt
No solidification porosity and no hot cracking, because nothing solidifies from liquid.
Point-of-Need Capable
A process that needs no furnace, die, or shielding gas can be deployed where the structure is.
CMMC Compliant
Compliant today; ISO in progress. We work to AWS D17.3 or to customer-furnished specifications.

Questions

Straight Answers

Do We Need to Buy Any Equipment?

No. You send us a drawing, we manufacture the part, and we send it back. LeapFast does not sell machines.

Can You Deposit Onto a Part Already in Service?

Yes, repair and feature addition onto existing aluminum structure is a core application. Substrate condition and alloy compatibility are assessed as part of the feasibility study.

How Do You Qualify a Repair?

To AWS D17.3 or to the customer specification, with a first-article and test plan agreed before work starts.

Next step

Send Us the Part That Is Holding Up Your Program.

A drawing, a STEP file, or a sketch and a size is enough. We reply within 3 business days, including when the answer is no.
